OVERVIEW: The Satter Foundation supports environmental conservation efforts around the world.
IP TAKE: The foundation keeps a low profile, and does not accept unsolicited proposals.
PROFILE: The Satter Foundation was established in 1997 by then Goldman Sachs partner Muneer Satter and his wife Kristen Hertel. Like many charitable vehicles associated with Goldman Sachs veterans, the Satter Foundation keeps a low profile, but its stated mission is to work towards a world where “world where all people—no matter where or in what circumstances they are born — have the resources and opportunities to live a free, educated, prosperous, and healthy life.” The foundation has given away over $50 million since its inception in the fields of education, health & human services, human rights & democracy, environment, job creation & economic opportunity, veterans, and the arts.
The Satter Foundation’s environment grantmaking supports organizations that “use innovative and thoughtful methods to save the environment,” such as by “developing new technologies,” “gaining support from local communities,” or “capitalizing on market forces.” It does not offer articulated grantmaking strategies in this area preferring to fund environmental conservation more broadly.
Grants generally range from $5,000 to $200,000. Past grantees include the Chicago Zoological Society, The Nature Conservancy, and Wildlife Conservation Society.
The Satter Foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals.
